Carmel teaches a range of classes, from introductory cognitive science and writing courses to research methods and computational courses, culminating in senior research seminars. She was part of the Open Science Collaboration that carried out the Reproducibility Project: Psychology and also a contributor to some of the ManyLabs projects. Her research primarily focuses on how the different senses (sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste) interact to influence a wide range of perceptual and cognitive states, as well as the role of emotional factors in mediating these states; she has a particular interest in studies of time perception and of flavor perception.
